LOCATION OF THE TEMPLE: The famed Khambaheswarar temple, also known as the Thirubuvana Veera Deva temple is located in the village of Thirubuvanam. It is around seven kilometers to the east of Kumbakonam. Thanjavur District of Tamilnadu, India.

HISTORY OF THE TEMPLE: History have described the Lord's Sarabesvara manifestation in detail. The great Lord Narayana manifested as Lord Narasimha to rid the universe of the evil that was Hiranyakasipu.

Evil Incarnate Hiranyakasipu had oppressed the universe with his tyranny. He was a supreme arrogant. His arrogance knew no bounds and he was certain that he could do whatever he pleased. He found much pleasure in subjecting all beings, including the Devas, to much pain and suffering. To protect the native of the universe and to give the evil one his due, Lord Narayana manifested his wrathful, aggressive Narasimha man-lion form. Lord Narasimhatore the demon apart thus putting an end to his tyrannical rule. To ensure that Hiranyakasi pu's brand of evil is forever banished from the universe, Lord Narasimha consumed every drop of Hiranyakasipu's blood and then wore the demon's mangled body as a garland. Thus He made sure that none of the evil one's physical remains made contact with the universe. The inimitable man-lion roared and performed a terrifying dance. The universe shaked at this aggressive form of the Lord. So the Devas, Rishis and Siddhas approached Lord Siva and requested His protection. Lord Siva, with the full support of Lord Soolini and Prathyankira Devis and their respective entourages, manifested His supremely aggressive Sarabesvara form. He embraced Lord Narasimha, cooled Him down and made Him accessible to all beings.

DIVINESS OF THE TEMPLE:This temple was also constructed in the 12th century by the Chola king Kulothunga Chola-II . This temple has been constructed on the lines of the Brahadeeswarar temples of Thanjavur. The idols of this temple shrine as if they were made out of metal. Lord Sarabesvara, the Lord in His unique manifestation as the Conqueror of evil forces everywhere. He is the Great Protector, Motivator and Well Wisher of all beings. This Lord of Bravery is the One who envelops us with His unconquerable cover of protection. He destroys negative forces and showers us with positive spiritual energy. Praying to Him constantly if you want to stay clear off evil.

AUSPICIOUS TIMES : Daily six worship services are performed in this temple. Like other Lord Siva temples, pradhoshams are special. In particular performing poojas on Rahukalams of Fridays and Sundays are very auspicious.

It is believed that a king by name Varaguna Pandiyan, on his way after worshipping in the Thiruvidaimarudhur temple to get rid of the adverse effect of Brhamahathi Dodham, feared by the feeling of followed by Brhamahathi and worshipped Sri Sarabesvarar and got relief from fear.
