LOCATION OF THE TEMPLE: Sri Madurakali Amman Temple,is situated in Siruvachuri,Perambalur Taluk, Tiruchirapaili Distt., Tamilnadu, India.
HISTORY OF THE TEMPLE: Once there lived a merchant named "Maanaayagan". He had a beautiful daughter named "Kannagi".He got her daughter married to a rich merchant named "Kovalan" who was living in the citu of Poompuhar.
Initially,their family life was great.But in a few days,Kovalan got attracted towards a dancer named "Maadhavi". Soon she became Kovalan's Concubine.Kannagi was still patient.One day Kovalan had some misunderstanding with Maadhavi and got separated from her and came back to Kannagi. But he lost all his wealth. He did not have money even for survival.So they decided to sell Kannagi's anklet. They did not want to live in their hometown.So,they left their place and reached a city named "Madhurai".
Kovalan approached a goldsmith to sell Kannagi's gold anklet filled with ruby stones.At that time,the Queen's anklet was robbed by someown.It was filled with pearl.
The goldsmith informed the city securities and they caught Kovaln and took him to the King. The king without enquiring properly,gave a death sentence to Kovalan.
Kannagi got revolved and she came to the palace of the king with her another anklet and broke three of the anklets to proove that the one which kovalan brought to market was filled with Ruby. The king got upset and felt bad for his behaviour.He and his wife committed suicide.
Even then,the anger of Kannagi did not blow off.She burnt the city of Madhurai and in the same pace she started walking and reached Siruvaachoor.
There she became cool and she freed her last-birth sister named Selli from the local magician.From that time,she is blessing all her devotees from the place with a grace in her eyes.
